Hi, I’m Simon – and I’ll be your tutor and guide through the French Immersion Oaxaca program.
I was born and raised in Sucy-en-Brie, a small city just outside Paris. In 2018, a job brought me to Mexico – I was working at a Club Med resort on the Pacific coast at the time. I never imagined that a few years later, I’d be living in Mexico long-term.
Since arriving in Mexico, I’ve lived in five different states. Out of all of them, the state of Oaxaca is the one that truly captured my heart. And within this state, I chose to settle in the city of Oaxaca de Juárez – maybe because it reminds me a little of Paris. Like the French capital, it shines with history, art, culture, gastronomy, and a kind of everyday poetry that’s hard to put into words.
Being a nature lover, I must also add that I feel incredibly fulfilled here, as the city is surrounded by beautiful mountains, offering a constant reminder of nature’s grandeur and peace.
What has drawn me in the most, though, is the spirit of the people here – their generosity, humility, courage, gratitude, and strong sense of community. These are values I deeply admire and try to live by.
Over time, the French and Mexican influences in my life have become deeply intertwined. They’ve shaped the way I live and communicate.
Speaking of communication, you should know that it’s one of my passions — I’m referring to interpersonal communication, the kind that allows us to connect with others in a genuine and meaningful way. And that’s exactly what we’ll be doing throughout the French Immersion Oaxaca program.
À bientôt !
Simon
Note: Believe it or not, the photo at the top of the page — with the mariachi band and me — isn’t photoshopped. A few years ago, I had a corporate photoshoot at the Eiffel Tower, and when I got there, this amazing mariachi band was just standing there. Was it a coincidence? I don’t think so. Vive la France! ¡Viva México!
